Great Leap’s annual FandangObon will take place Saturday, Oct. 5, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the plaza of the Japanese American National Museum, 100 N. Central Ave. (at First Street) in Little Tokyo.
The event combines Japanese Obon, Mexican fandango, African rhythms and more.
This year’s festival will feature over 15 artists, live music and performances. It is being held in conjunction with Tsuru for Solidarity’s Kintsugi 2024 and the 2024 Japanese American Confinement Sites Consortium Education Conference.

Live pan-cultural music and dancing are central to the FandangObon Festival, set for Oct. 5 at JANM.
“We’re excited to offer an opportunity for folks to come together and share and learn from each other at this year’s FandangObon Festival,” said Nobuko Miyamoto of Great Leap. “Join us at the top of the event for a repair and healing ceremony and then join us as we share dances and music to learn, connect, and build with each other.”
Co-sponsored by JANM, National Endowment for the Arts, L.A. County Arts & Culture, Sustainable Little Tokyo, Little Tokyo Service Center, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, and Little Tokyo Community Council.
Free but RSVPs are requested. Go to greatleap.org.
