On Saturday, March 29, everyone will cheer “Kampai” during the first San Fernando Valley sake-tasting event that will feature sommelier Wendy Kohno, who will share her expertise on various sake along with fabulous food from Yama Sushi.
The fun event, which will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, 12953 Branford St. in Pacoima, will include music by Dan Taguchi and his popular band. A specially milled rice and Nozomi label sake will be introduced and available for purchase. Tables of eight are $1,200.
Gold sponsors are U.S. Bank, Kay and Kyoko Oda, Sharlene and Glenn Miyagishima, Terry Takeda and Lou Slimp. Super swag bags for all guests will be provided by Pristine Home Health Care along with generous donations from community members and businesses.
The future dreamt by the Issei and Nisei founders of the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center after World War II will be expanded by today’s generation, who envision the need for additional space for current and future programs and services.
At the heart is a multi-million-dollar campaign effort to raise monies for capital improvements not just for the potential expansion of the SFVJACC, but also the critical upgrades and revitalization of existing spaces to better serve the needs of those who use the center. The SFVJACC is meeting its new goal with energy and enthusiasm.
“This capital campaign represents the largest initiative in the history of the SFVJACC,” event organizers said. “We are excited to build on our current local and community programs and services, while expanding our offerings and ensuring they align with the evolving needs of our future members and the community.
Project Nozomi is a bold strategic plan that was developed by the future planning committee after surveys and studies that indicate that the time is now. Fundraising for a regulation-size basketball court, classrooms and cultural arts center for workshops and performances have already begun with pledges, donations, and securities.
