Day of Remembrance will be observed by the UC San Diego Nikkei Student Union on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Forum, Price Center, at UCSD, 9500 Gilman Dr., La Jolla.

The event will mark the 84th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which resulted in the incarceration of 125,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.

Enjoy free dinner and meet distinguished guest speakers: Susan Hasegawa, professor at San Diego City College, and Kay Ochi, president of the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego.

Excerpts from the 1981 hearings of the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians will be shown. Many former incarcerees spoke publicly for the first time, and the CWRIC’s recommendations were the basis for the redress legislation that was signed into law in 1988.

A curated archive gallery will be displayed, courtesy of JAHSSD.

Dinner is sponsored by San Diego JACL. The program is supported in part by a co-sponsorship from the Warren College Student Council and the Student Council of Eleanor Roosevelt College.
